An Employee is a person who has agreed to be employed to work for some form of payment under a contract of employment.

An employee can also be seen as an  individual who was hired by an employer to do a specific job.

The employee is hired by the employer after an application and interview process results in his or her selection as an employee.

Many employers provide life insurance plans as part of an employee benefits package. Life Insurance means insurance that pays out a sum of money either on the death of the insured person or after a set period.

Most employees pay their worker’s life insurance, jobs that require such are marine Engineers, Military personnel, etc.

Retirement planning

Retirement options are available for  most employees and not all companies offer this. In more stable countries it’s an essential benefit.

Most times, they reserve a certain amount of money for their employee’s retirement plans, take them on vacation and enroll them in a class where they are taught how to live life as a retired person.

Most employers are kind enough to pay their employees during their vacation times. This is one of the benefits of employment that even the unemployed wish they had.

Free meals

Most companies have a cafeteria arena where staffs members are allowed to eat for free. There is a lunch break and everyone is entitled to it just like everyone is served almost the same thing.

Company coffee in the morning, a healthy lunch, and dinner. Companies that do this have a nutritionist who prepares their meals

Family Leave

Along with extended leave, many employee benefits packages include a family leave plan. Family leave includes extended absence allowance, such as maternity and paternity leave, for when parents welcome their new babies.

Depending on the employer, employees may take up to 12 weeks off of work to stay with family and their infants and still enjoy the pay they are allocated to.

Disability benefits

Disability benefits ensure an employee’s salary in the event they are injured or become ill and cannot work. Some employers may offer temporary disability insurance plans that provide income support to employees who have suffered an injury or illness outside of work.

While disability benefits can vary between employers, many offer some form of short-term disability coverage in the event you’re injured on the job.

For example, if one during a job loses his arm the company is liable and will pay him or her a benefit and this is called Disability benefits.

Workers’ compensation

Workers’ compensation plans are usually part of a typical employee benefits package if they aren’t substituted with a disability benefit plan.

Workers’ compensation covers accidents, illness and injuries suffered on the job, and these benefits can last for as long as 100weeks, a year depending on the companies agreement with the employee and the nature of the injury

Living stipends

Some employers offer living stipends as part of their benefits packages, especially if employees need to relocate to fill their position.

Depending on the company, employees may receive monthly or yearly stipends that cover several living expenses such as moving fees, home office setup, utility coverage, and even rent but its important to note that this is rare.

Many companies pay their employees to attend training and professional development. Mainly top companies and banking operations do this for their new hires.

Here the employee goes  for training in places set out by the employer and is still paid as if they are working.

Travel expenditures

Many businesses employ executives and professionals who are required to travel to complete business assignments.

In these cases, employers generally cover the costs of travel, lodging, and spending costs for employees who travel long distances to perform their jobs.

Real estate companies, Tech, and industrial companies are making known to enjoy this benefit.

Company vehicle

Some companies even provide company vehicles for employees to use. This perk is common among trade industries such as construction, where employees arrive to work in their vehicles then use the company’s vehicles to complete their job duties.

It is also common in the Educational sector where the Vice-Chancellor, faculty heads are given official vehicles Th Banking sector is also known to do this too.

It’s important to note that however that these cars, do not belong to the individuals so once their office or tenure is done they are under an obligation to hand over the cars.

Remote work flexibility

During the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 virus, companies were forced to work remotely to survive something they never knew they could do.

Gradually they found their stand and realized that distance isn’t a barrier and made it work. Currently, remote work flexibility is a new perk of being employed, Companies are now comfortable letting their employees work from home .

All I can say is, it must be nice to be employed with all these benefits and perks.
