Eligibility Requirement For Catto MSc & Ph.D. Scholarships 2022/2023

To be able to apply for Catto MSc & Ph.D. For Scholarships 2022/2023 for female African students at The University of Edinburgh, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a female who ordinarily resides in one of the African countries.
  • Have a good undergraduate degree in the social sciences with a minimum of a high 2.1 from a recognized African university.
  • A Master’s degree achieved with distinction will be an advantage for those wishing to go directly into a Ph.D.
  • Not previously hold a degree from a university outside of Africa except current or former students of The University of Edinburgh.
  • Exhibit dedication to pursuing a Ph.D. in African Studies
  • Display leadership potential and a desire to increase the effectiveness of their research
  • Must have applied to the University of Edinburgh to study for the MSc in Africa and International Development and/or the Ph.D. in African Studies by 15 April 2022.
  • Because one of the scholarship’s primary goals is to diversify the African continent’s researchers who provide innovative and essential research to African Studies, this scholarship is only open to scholars who are ordinarily domiciled in African countries.

Catto MSc & Ph.D. 2022/2023 Scholarships Award 

1 scholarship award will be given by the Catto MSc & Ph.D. Scholarships 2022/2023 for female African students at The University of Edinburgh.

Successful applicants will begin their studies in September 2022 at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre of African Studies. 

The Stephen Gordon Catto Charitable Trust provided substantial financing for these Scholarships, which will cover full tuition as well as a monthly maintenance stipend for the one-year MSc and subsequent three years of Ph.D. research.

Catto MSc & Ph.D. Scholarships 2022/2023 Application Open Session

The University of Edinburgh’s Centre of African Studies will host an application open session on April 1, 2022, from 14.00 to 15.00 GMT. 

All applicants for the scholarship are highly urged to attend.

At this session, information about the Centre will be available, what is needed for submissions, and specifics about the awardee’s specialized support and mentorship. 

Where appropriate, applicants can include their families for support.

Selection Process

After the deadline, all submissions will be reviewed, and shortlisted individuals will be contacted for an online interview.
