About the federal fire service (FFS)

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) is the principal agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, established by an Act of Parliament mandated with the sole responsibility of mitigation, prevention,

The sole and primary responsibility of the federal fire service (FFS) is first to prevent fire outbreaks, tackle fire outbreaks, and enlighten the people on how to prevent fire outbreaks.

Their vision is to produce firefighters and this is achieved through the National Fire Academy which is an affiliation if the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA).

The National Fire Academy is where competent and given the necessary knowledge and these men are trained to combat fire outbreaks.

The Fire Service in Nigeria was established in 1901, as an arm of the Lagos Police Fire brigade. In April 1963, an act of Parliament established the Federal Fire Service.

  • Ensuring effective discharge of the functions of the state fire service
  • Ensuring that only standard fire fighting equipment are purchased
  • Enlightening and educating the masses about the prevention of fire outbreak and possible control measures
  • Encouraging the establishment of more fire stations in the country

  • Regulations and Registration of private fire outfits: Due to country’s population the Nigerian fire service thought it wise to give license to private fire outfits to operate in the country in order to make for quick response.
  • Prepation of fire reports: After every fire incidents the officers are mandated to write a report based on what they have gathered. For instance the cause of the fire outbreak,how many casualties,how many persons were recued,death incidents,which hospital the accident victims were taken to and also properties that were lost to the outbreak of the fire.
  • Capacity building and manpower: the Recruitment process in the federal fire service is quite regorous because there is need for those who can handle the pressure that comes from the task given to them. As more persons are recruited more persons are being trained for the job, there are cases where some persons are sent abroad for training.This builds the capacity of the workers,they are we equipped for the job when they being given such training

Federal Fire Service Recruitment Academic Qualifications
