If you’ve worked in a restaurant, you must definitely have to arrange and rearrange and that might have made you a better organizer. Let’s say sitting arrangements in a restaurant, all staff must know that the restaurant is arranged in a particular sitting order which is super cool.

The second skill one would get from working in a restaurant is behavioral skill. All staff of every restaurant must possess good manners and etiquette. You must know how to present a menu to the customer in an attention grabbing manner and speak to them respectfully.

The menu is the most important asset in a restaurant, because a creative menu introduces the concept of a restaurant. The menu should be so creative that customers’ appetite should increase at the sight of the menu. Words like pouch, concealed and blaze should be used to introduce the meal.

A chef is very important in running a restaurant because you will need a good chef to match the concept and qualities of the restaurant. The chef sets the standard of a restaurant and as a chef you will need to train others.

Administrative Research Skill

From my little experience working at a restaurant, I learnt about administrative research, which prepared me for the management of a restaurant and back office work. 

I learnt how to watch the employees and make sure the business is safe at all times and profitable by keeping eyes on the trend, labor cost and attending to customers’ issues. I got to understand why all staff should be at their best, properly trained and happy at their workplace. 

I was able to look for sources to the employees issues when they encounter any problem and I could detect when an employee underperformed.

I also discovered that in running a restaurant, the location is the key to success. You should pay extra attention to the location you intend to use for the restaurant, it will be ideal to find a nice location that draws a crowd and is easily accessible.

You don’t really need the world to patronize your business, you just need a group of people to be regular customers. I understood the importance of budget before preparing to open a restaurant. 

3 P’s (patient, polite and productive)

The waiter and waitress are very delicate staff that need attention. As a waiter, you should be well dressed, polite, patient, productive  and always wear a smile despite the attitude of the customer. 

You must be calm at all times and if there is any issue you can’t handle, draw the attention of your supervisor to address the issue.

Note: Arranging plates and cutleries on the table is any skill that interests customers, you should arrange it in a uniform way, so that it would be accessible and the cutleries should be complete. Know how to present the menu, take orders and serve dishes to customers and also know when and how to pack dishes when the customers are done eating. 

After packing and plates they should be washed, cleaned and arranged  properly to dry. As a waiter, you should be able to introduce every meal and drink on the menu to your customer and describe it nicely so that they would love to have a taste of it.

In the aspect of a chef, the chef should be careful in preparing every meal, he should understand that he sets the standard of the restaurant and Every slice should be uniform, arranged and appetizing to customers taste to satisfy their appetite and he should understand that any mistake he makes can sabotage the restaurant, and as a chef you should be able to bring new things to the table from time to time not just the normal meal.
