From my little experience working at a restaurant, I learnt about administrative research, which prepared me for the management of a restaurant and back office work.
I learnt how to watch the employees and make sure the business is safe at all times and profitable by keeping eyes on the trend, labor cost and attending to customers’ issues. I got to understand why all staff should be at their best, properly trained and happy at their workplace.
I was able to look for sources to the employees issues when they encounter any problem and I could detect when an employee underperformed.
I also discovered that in running a restaurant, the location is the key to success. You should pay extra attention to the location you intend to use for the restaurant, it will be ideal to find a nice location that draws a crowd and is easily accessible.
You don’t really need the world to patronize your business, you just need a group of people to be regular customers. I understood the importance of budget before preparing to open a restaurant.
3 P’s (patient, polite and productive)
The waiter and waitress are very delicate staff that need attention. As a waiter, you should be well dressed, polite, patient, productive and always wear a smile despite the attitude of the customer.
