On the 8th of June 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR set up a scheme aimed at eradicating the problem of unemployment amongst the youths of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As a means to facilitate social development.
NPOWER is an abbreviation for
“Need for Power.” A scheme opened to citizens of Nigeria between the ages of 18 and 35 years, both graduates and non-graduates. The applicants get paid stipulated stipends at the of each month.
NPOWER is divided into two categories; Graduate and non-graduate categories respectively.
Graduate Category encompasses; Teaching, Health, Agro, and Tax. The duties of applicants in these categories are as follows;

NPOWER TEACH Accepts:
- Professional Tutors
- Project Supervisors and Managers
- Research Analyst
- Consultants in Education and Strategy
- Managers in Educational Services etc
Applicants under the NTEACH category will be sent to schools within reach to help facilitate educational standards within their communities.
Under this category, applicants must be ready to work in community health centers and hospitals as;
- Public relations officer/manager
- Health specialist in education
- Health promotion coordination/administration and so on.
This sector employs
- Farm managers
- Fertilizer aggregators
- Farm cooperative managers
- Agro entrepreneurship and extension consultants
This sector seeks reliable hands to curb the problem of tax defaulting. After undergoing training by the FIRS, the accepted applicants work as Tax Liaison Officers in their states of residence with the state’s tax authorities.
Applicants will work online as customer service managers and providers, as well as creating awareness of tax payment compliance and help fish out defaulters.
NON-GRADUATE CATEGORY subdivided into
- Npower Knowledge
- Npower Build
- Npower Creative Tech(hardware and software developers)
Npower Build aims at training unemployed Nigerian youths to diversify knowledge in the economy and ascertain the build-up of a workforce that is highly competent, skilled, and professional in referring technician and artisan services comprising of;
Environmental services, Construction, Utilities, Gas and Aluminum, Automotive.
While Npower Creative consists of jobs in Animation, Graphic Design, Script Writing, and or Post-production.

To be eligible for application there are requirements needed and must be met.
Firstly, applicants should visit the Npower portal via the website npower.fmhds.gov.ng
Applicants should possess the following ;
- Accurate BVN details
- A recent passport photograph not more than one megabyte (1mb)
- A valid email address and phone number
- Applicants under Npower Health and Npower Teach should possess a degree certificate- HND, OND, BSC, NYSC CERTIFICATE…
- A valid means of identification eg NIN, NATIONAL ID CARD, DRIVERS LICENSE, VOTERS CARD etc.
- Birth certificate, which must include place of birth and state of origin
- A standard completed CV
Registrations should be carried out carefully and applicants should ensure that they provide and upload accurate details in the specified areas.
Through the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, the Federal Government has announced the commencement of the Npower program in the six geo-political zones of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.
This scheme is set to empower over 20,000 young and unemployed Nigerians on the globe as providers of world-class services and content providers in the creative and information technology sectors.
